         Busch Farm Scenes

Sam out for a stroll on the country road, July 2, 2002. A heavy traffic day on a road like this might be one or two cars an hour. This photo is looking north, the Busch farmstead is the tree area to the upper right. Sam delighted in these walks, since they afforded an opportunity not only for companionship, but to jump into sloughs, and chase and smell things of the countryside.

Weather near Berlin July, 2002. One thing about the treeless prairie: you can always see weather coming...and going...and what missed you, or might hit you in a few minutes. Almost always it comes from the west or southwest. This one, to the southwest, likely missed the farm.

These flowers, caught in September 1997, are among the ubiquitous weeds of the prairies, some noxious, always beautiful at blooming time. There is a saying: "a weed is simply a flower misplaced." Such kinds of 'flowers' are, however, often a nuisance!

One of the sloughs (small shallow ponds) on the Busch farm in September 1997. Unwanted water drainage can be and is a problem between farmers, and the Busch pasture area has shrunk in recent years due to an excess of surface water. Ducks and other such creatures do not mind this problem, of course!

In July 2000, one of many cattails in the border of a farm slough showed off for the camera.

Until mid-winter of the severe winter of 1996-97, Vince and Edithe raised a certain number of range cattle, some of which are shown here, in June 1991. The winter of 96-97 proved to be so rough, with so much snow, that Vince sold his cattle. Some years earlier they had ceased milking cows.

The writer of this caption remembers taking this photo in Busch's pasture in June, 1991. The calf was new, and the mama was protective, chasing the photographer back to the safety of the farm truck, from whose window this picture was taken. The mama cow was not pleased.

Vincent repairing fence June 1991. This was a never ending task for a farmer.

A 'good' view of a storm, photographed by Vincent in the summer of 1996. This is a 'good' photo, because it is of a storm which is to the east, and has passed by. No report on what the storm left in its wake, but it was probably an 'interesting' one.

A double-rainbow caught after yet another storm in the summer of 2000. The rainbow can symbolize many positive things. It is a gift to the person who sees it.
